What a class is like

  1. 01

    Step 1: Warm up

Voice and legs together: breathing, a vocal slide and a walk around the room to the beat.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Learn a song

A new song each month, taught in parts, with the words on the wall.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Block a scene

Pairs and groups of four find where to stand and when to move, then run the scene.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Run a number

The whole class puts song, scene and steps together once, start to finish.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Notes and cool-down

A few kind, specific notes from the teacher, and a stretch to finish.

Good to know

  • What to wear and bring

Clothes you can move in, such as leggings or joggers and a plain top. Sneakers are fine for the first weeks; jazz shoes come later if the teacher asks. Hair back, water bottle in the bag.

  • Length and size

Ninety minutes, and a class of up to 14. Studio A has a sprung floor and a piano.

  • Moving up

The teacher talks with the family after each session. There is no test, and some students stay in a group another session.
